THE FOUNTAIN (SEBILJ)

On Bascarsija, amidst small shops and various places of worship of different confessions and educational and cultural buildings on the main square there is a public drinking fountain. It got its present look at the end of the 19th century, but it has been one of the city symbols, depicted on many postcards of Sarajevo. During the siege it functioned solely as a symbol because there was no water in any of the fountains.
