"HOW TO FEED THE PETS "
Since we
know very well today what dogs need to eat I made up for people a
wartime recipe from the humanitarian aid we got. People were surprised
that I included yeast. They thought that the dog would swell from
yeast, but dogs aren't bread, yeast won't make them rise. But it contains
plenty of B vitamins, which are absolutely essential for normal growth,
and functioning of the organism. And from humanitarian canned food,
yeast, a little milk and a little oil we could give the dogs a diet
that would let them survive. I had the idea of giving my dogs boiled
cattle skin, it turned out to be a good idea and I recommended it
to others all through the war, because when animals were slaughtered
they threw away the skins. The Visoko tannery wasn't working. So the
dog breeders shaved the skins, cut them in thin strips, boiled them
and fed them to the dogs. After all, skin is natural animal food and
it proved itself to be better than any tinned food or any additions
to humanitarian aid.
One of our breeders had three rottweilers that with great difficulty
he managed to keep alive in the war with the help of UNPROFOR and
humanitarian organizations, just keeping them alive. Not long ago
he showed in three shows in Croatia and got three championships. I
hope he'll soon be able to show in an international show in Germany
and he's hoping for great success. While the war was on my dogs went
to various shows, to Split where they took first place and Zagreb
where they took second. That means a lot to me. I was sorry I couldn't
be there, but with Sarajevo, and in such difficulties, they were results
to be proud of.
